UPDATE AS OF SEPT. 27, 2021: I’m booked for the next several months and not taking on new clients. (Existing or former clients, feel free to get in touch if you have a project you’d like my help with, and I can let you know what my availability is.) I expect to be closed to new clients until at least March, 2022.
I work with clients who need structural editing, copy-editing or proofreading for manuscripts of any length, fiction or non-fiction. I have a master’s degree in journalism and 11 years of experience at a daily newspaper, including two years as editorial pages editor and two years as deputy editorial pages editor.
I currently work on an ongoing basis for a corporate client as a freelance copy-editor, and have been a volunteer mentor/editor for many years for The OpEd Project and Informed Opinions.
I am also a fiction writer with a novel and three novellas published (from ChiZine Publications, Tor.com Publishing and Abaddon Books), and another novel coming soon. I’ve had more than 30 short stories published in venues such as Strange Horizons, Escape Pod and Daily Science Fiction. I’m an active member of SFWA and of the Codex and East Block Irregulars writers groups, with years of experience reading and critiquing other writers’ fiction. I’m represented by agent Jennie Goloboy.
As a member of the editors’ collective, The Wordmasons, I am happy to refer you to one of my colleagues whenever I’m not available for a project. You can find out more about us, including our rates, at the Wordmasons website. (For clients who’ve worked with me before I joined the Wordmasons, nothing changes; your rates are grandfathered so long as you work directly with me. If you’d like another option, particularly when I’m not available, Spencer or Charlotte will give you a quote.)
