Awards season

I’m thrilled to even have a story eligible for the Aurora Awards, so this is me, savouring that.

I have a story eligible for the Aurora Awards.

It’s “We Take Care of Our Own,” from the wonderful anthology Blood and Water, edited by Hayden Trenholm and published by Bundoran Press. To jog your memory: The story is about a woman preparing to smuggle food across the U.S. border in 2041, and struggling to hold on to her teenage son, who takes a dim view of her activities.

If you’re a member of the CSFFA (or would like to become one for the very reasonable fee of $10), you can nominate online or by mail until April 15. My story, and the other stories from the anthology, are eligible in the short fiction category. Blood and Water itself is eligible in the Best Related Work category.

And of course, there’s an impressive body of eligible work from Canadian writers; here’s the short fiction list from 2012.

I’m still working on my own nominations. It’s not going to be easy.

The Auroras are extra-special for me this year because my hometown convention, Can-Con, is the 2013 host for Canvention, which means the Auroras will be handed out in Ottawa this year.
